Standards-based Learning Opportunities
The goal of the History-Social Science Standards Management System (HSS SMS) is to provide access to information, resources, and tools needed for effective standards-based instruction.
Using the History-Social Science Standards Management System (HSS SMS)
The flow chart provides a visual representation for planning and assessing effective teaching, supported by the HSS SMS.
- Begin with California History-Social Science Framework and Content Standards to inform learning
- Access the Standards Browser to identify and focus grade level standards for a specific strand and to create pre-assessments
- Once students are assessed, model Unit and Lesson Plans provide examples of instructional design
- Use formative assessments and the Student Record Sheet to organize and track progress to inform instruction needs of individual students
- Administer summative assessments at the end of a unit to indicate student mastery of the content
- The cycle begins again with the standards focus for the next unit of learning
