CDE - English Language Arts Content Standards

California Language Arts Content Standards in Spanish

The English Language Arts Content Standards for California Public Schools, Kindergarten through Grade Twelve represent a statewide consensus on the skills, knowledge, and abilities that all students should be able to master in language arts. Each standard describes the content and tools that students need to learn and use by the end of each grade level (K-8) or cluster of grade levels (9/10 and 11/12).

California public schools will provide instruction and support for all students so that they have the opportunity to become Fluent Readers, Skilled Writers, Confident Speakers, and Thoughtful Listeners. English language learners will be provided the instruction and support they need to reach grade level standards in English. Administrators, as instructional leaders, provide the appropriate support that English language learners will need to meet the standards.
