The goal of the Language Arts Standards Management System (LASMS) is to provide access to information, resources, and tools needed for effective standards-based instruction.

Using the Language Arts Standards Management System (LASMS)

The flow chart provides a visual representation for planning and assessing effective teaching, supported by the LASMS.

  • Begin with the California Reading/Language Arts Framework and Content Standards to inform learning
  • Access the Standards Browser to identify and focus grade level standards for a specific strand and to create pre-assessments
  • Once students are assessed, model Unit and Lesson Plans provide examples of instructional design
  • Use formative assessments and the Student Record Sheet to organize and track progress to inform instruction needs of individual students
  • Administer summative assessments at the end of a unit to indicate student mastery of the content
  • The cycle begins again with the standards focus for the next unit of learning
