Algebraic Thinking Toolkit

What is Algebraic Thinking? This toolkit provides a beginning look at algebraic thinking for teachers and is a resource for administrators and teacher leaders. It presents one model of Algebraic Thinking, and provides related activities that can be used in staff meeting settings to assist teachers to better understand the topic.

The four big ideas (Patterns and Functions, Generalized Arithmetic, Notation and Language, Multiple Representations) are presented in two formats. The in-depth explorations of each big idea take approximately one hour to implement. The related short activities each take approximately 15 minutes. These activities may be mixed and matched to suit the needs of the staff

To order the Algebraic Thinking Toolkit, access the order form in the Publications Catalog in SDCOE Graphics Department.
