The goal of the Mathematics Standards Management System (MSMS) is to provide access to information, resources, and tools needed for effective standards-based instruction.

Using the Mathematics Standards Management System (MSMS)

The flow chart provides a visual representation for planning and assessing effective teaching, supported by the MSMS.

  • Begin with California Mathematics Framework and Standards to inform learning
  • Access the Standards Browser to identify and focus grade level standards for a specific strand and to create pre-assessments
  • Once students are assessed, model Unit and Lesson Plans provide examples of instructional design
  • Use formative assessments and the Student Record Sheet to organize and track progress to inform instruction needs of individual students
  • Administer summative assessments at the end of a unit to indicate student mastery of the content
  • The cycle begins again with the standards focus for the next unit of learning

Organization - Tools and Resources

Tools and resources are organized around the Six Effective Practices of high-performing schools:

  • Teaching and Learning -strategies and resources for classroom instruction
  • Professional Development -opportunities and resources for professional learning
  • Culture and Communication -resources for collaboration to enhance learning
  • Accountability and Assessment -data tools for monitoring and reporting results
  • Community Partnerships -strategies for engaging parents and community members
  • Instructional Leadership -leadership resources for all of the areas in Six Effective Practices
