Standards-based Learning Opportunities
As part of the coordinated county efforts in Closing the Achievement Gap, the Standards Managed System was created to assist schools and districts in delivering quality standards-based instruction.
The goal of the Visual and Performing Arts Standards Management System (VAPA SMS) is to provide access to information, resources, and tools needed for effective standards-based instruction.
Using the Visual and Performing Arts Standards Management System (VAPA SMS)
The flowchart provides a visual representation for planning and assessing effective instruction, supported by the VAPA SMS.
- Begin with California Visual and Performing Arts Framework and Content Standards to inform learning goals and benchmarks
- Access the Standards Browser to identify and focus grade-level standards for a specific strand and to create pre-assessments
- Evaluate student understanding and skills to inform instructional planning
- Model Unit and Lesson Plans provide examples of instructional design
- Use formative assessments and the Student Record Sheet to organize and track progress to inform instruction needs of individual students
- Administer summative assessments at the end of a unit to indicate student mastery of the content
- The cycle begins again with the standards focus for the next unit of learning
